Levofloxacin
Indications/Uses
Infections due to susceptible organisms eg, community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, skin & soft tissue infection, typhoid fever.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent >18 yr 500 mg once daily for 7-14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Ensure adequate fluid intake.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to quinolones.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic pneumonitis, hypersensitivity reactions, dysphonia, abnormal ECG readings, eosinophilia, erythema multiforme, hemolytic anemia, multi-system organ failure, SJS, tendon rupture, vasodilatation.
Drug Interactions
Antacids, sucralfate, metal cations & multivit prep affect GI absorption. May cause hypoglycemia in combination w/ oral antidiabetic agents.
